Redundant Array of Independent Disks, or RAID, is a method of keeping content on a number of hard disks at the same time. A RAID could be software or hardware depending on the HDDs which are used - physical or logical ones, yet what is common between them is that they all perform as just a single unit where your information is kept. The key advantage of employing a RAID is redundancy because the data on all of the drives is identical all of the time, so even in case one of the drives fails for some reason, the data will still be available on the rest of the drives. The overall performance will also improve because the reading and writing processes could be split between different drives, so a single one will never be overloaded. This is a specific drive where an additional bit is included to any content copied on it. In case a disk in the RAID stops working, it will be changed with no service disruptions and the information will be recovered on the new drive by recalculating its bits thanks to the data on the parity disk along with that on the other disks. This is done to ensure the integrity of the data and along with the real-time checksum authentication which the ZFS file system runs on all drives, you'll never have to concern yourself with the loss of any info no matter what.

RAID in Semi-dedicated Servers

If you host your sites in a semi-dedicated server account from our company, all of the content you upload will be stored on SSD drives that work in RAID-Z. With this type of RAID, at least 1 of the hard drives is used for parity - when data is synced between the hard drives, an extra bit is included in it on the parity one. The purpose behind this is to guarantee the integrity of the information which is cloned to a brand new drive in case one of the disks in the RAID breaks down because the site content being copied on the brand new disk is recalculated from the data on the standard drives and on the parity one. Another advantage of RAID-Z is that even in case a hard drive stops working, the system can easily switch to another one promptly without service interruptions of any sort. RAID in VPS Servers

All VPS server accounts which we provide are made on physical servers that take advantage of SSD drives functioning in RAID. At least one drive is employed for parity - one additional bit is included in the data cloned on it and if a main disk stops working, this bit makes it much simpler to recalculate the bits of the files on the failed hard disk so that the accurate information is restored on the new drive added to the RAID. At the same time, your sites will remain online since all the info will still load from at least 1 more drive.
